DOWNTOWN Reno Stone Sculpture by Chris Atcheson

Reno Stone Sculpture
This unique and beautiful sculpture is amazing. Having grown up in this area and lived here all my life I never knew what or who did this piece and where it came from. I love that you can see the downtown skyline and surrounded by the I-80 interstate, UNR that happens to be in a residential area.

The artist Chris Atcheson has several sculptures in the Reno area one of his most famous here in Reno is at the Pioneer Theater of Jesse Reno.

This piece is sculptured out of granite and is two separate pieces that have the eye on Reno. What a remarkable view and a unique concept. Smooth and clean on the inside and rough and natural on the outside.

Doesn't this SOUND LIKE RENO ????

Drift The Barriers

Drifting the Barriers of life in Downtown Reno, The Biggest little City in The World. Where the barriers seam to be so many but actually are small in statue and can be overcame with diligence. As you look at each barrier think if you had to reach its other side" How would you do it? and would it be easy or difficult? It all depends on the interpretation and the mind set from the person confronted with its obstacle.

How would some of these barriers be different if you where impaired? ( blind, wheelchair bound, or even under the influence"

Some barriers may even be easier depending on the impairment.

Answers from Page 39

John Taylor's  Treaty signing at Medicine Creak Lodge is defiantly more representational as it is much easier to understand what is being painted. The prospective from the artist is more familiar and sets an idea that would make the painting popular in style. The Howling Wolf edition  is more abstract and general. It posses a need for understanding. A person first looking at the Howling Wolf may not understand that a Treaty Signing is taking place or the significant s of charterers. The crayons or colored pencils are also a contributing factor of abstract the colors are not representational of the items they represent.

The difference is many cultures have familiar traditions that are handed down from generation. A prospective of one generation may record stories meanings and spiritual understands not written in the same traditional since.

Role # 4 Raphael The School of Athens 1510-1511

I have chosen Raphael and the painting of " The School of Athens, painted in 1510- 1511. My selection was based on that I was fortunate to see the exhibit at the Museum of Fine Art here in Reno a few months ago. I was amazed at the detail and composition and could see similarities in style texture and structure. Raphael was notorious for having secrets untold about the nature and reasoning behind many of his works. Most of his paintings are majestic and during the height of the Renaissance period. Religion and politics where at odds and being defined and governed by the Catholic Church. The painting resembles style of the painting "Last Supper by Michael Angelo only in his painting he has Plato and Aristotle as the center point of the painting.

Grand in style color and size it appeared that he was directed in what he could represent and what he felt was truth. I believe that he was torn within his work not always being able to represent what he felt personally  to be his spirituality.

I wonder if why he has self painted himself in the forefront as bruiting or distraught over how he was influenced in what he is able to paint.

About The Artist : Raphael

Born April 6, 1483, Urbino, Italy  whos father was Giovanni Santi, painter at the court of  Federigo Montefeltro, who first taught him the elements of painting. Raphael moved to Florence in 1504 to learn from Leonardo Da Vinci and Michelangelo. He was considered a genus and mastered his painting at age 17 although he also became a very well know architect. His fine brush strokes and laying of paint give his paintings an almost three dimensional feel.

He died on his 37th birthday and buried in Rome. I think it very interesting that he signed his paintings RVSM, which stood for "Raphael Vrbinus Sua Mano" (Raphael of Urbino, His Hand).
